Baby Symptoms – Natural Remedy For Ear Infections

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Baby symptoms for earaches are important to recognize early as infections of the ear are the most common cause of earache in young children.

You will recognize the symptoms in your baby pretty quickly as your baby will be tugging or scratching the ears and this is usually associated with difficulty hearing. Other obvious signs will include crying, fever, flushed cheeks, aching in the ears and your baby can also be nauseous and have trouble sleeping.

Infections of the ear are one of the most common problems that babies have and it is widely known that 75 percent of babies will suffer from at least one ear infection before they reach the age of three.

These ear infections can reoccur each year prior to your child attending school. Thankfully there are some natural safe home remedies now available to treat ear problems and a safe alternative is therapeutic plant oils.

It is advisable to seek holistic health care remedies for your child and know that you are giving comfort to your baby to assist with their natural healing. Your baby is sensitive and has very delicate skin so you want to treat your baby with safe natural products.

There are two main types of ear infection – the outer ear (otitis externa) and the middle ear (otitis media). Outer ear infection symptoms will show redness around the ear and there may be a discharge.

Middle ear infections tend to be caused by fluid building up behind the eardrum. As there is a danger of this leading to a burst eardrum, especially if there is a big build-up of mucus you would want to consult your Doctor. However, when the eardrum has burst, the pain will ease and the eardrum usually repairs itself.

It is a well know fact that breastfeeding can help prevent ear infections as this boosts your baby’s immune system. Research has also shown that babies who don’t use dummies have 33% fewer incidents of middle ear infections.

How To Avoid Baby Nappy Rash

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Why does your baby get nappy rash?

Most babies will get this at some stage - it is not a disease but a irritation of the baby’s skin. The most common cause is due to a wet or dirty nappy that touches the baby’s skin for longer than it should. This can occur more frequently if the baby has diarrhoea.

Nappy rash can also be caused by a fungal infection caused by dampness under the nappy.

It is absolutely normal to have fungi on your skin, however it only grows when conditions are conducive. It is not attributable to bad hygiene but it can be caused by dampness or changes in skin conditions. This can be particularly unpleasant for a baby as it can actually sting their skin.

An ordinary nappy rash is very red and will not usually affect the baby’s health. The baby generally feels well but will feel a stinging when they’re wet, or dirty themselves. The redness does not reach into the folds of the skin and if the baby’s bottom is given some air the rash disappears a few days if nappies are changed frequently and natural products are used to protect the baby’s skin.

A fungal infection is bright red. Check if the baby is red in the folds of the skin as well. The fungus can grow there too, and there may be other spots on the buttocks. Your baby will get upset and cry when you change their nappy.

How can you avoid nappy rash in your baby?

Some babies only experience it once in a while, whereas others experience it time and again. No one knows the reason for these differences in the skin, but some babies just seem more sensitive than others.

How do you treat nappy rash?

The best way to treat nappy rash is to use natural products as these will not harm your baby’s sensitive skin and by using natural solutions you are protecting your baby from harmful synthetics used in artificial products.
