How pure essential oils can make work spaces healthier

Wellbeing begins with feeling at ease. It includes breathing deeply and calmly. It is connected to feeling safe and responding to a harmonious environment.

A good natural healthcare practitioner understands this and will invest in creating a pleasant, peaceful working space.

Plants, natural or gentle light, clean, inviting rooms are just some basic essentials that can go a long way towards creating the comfort and simplicity that will open a person up to greater possibilities of healing and restoration.

Natural organic environments contribute to healing and wellbeing

More and more people are coming to the understanding also that an organic, natural environment is the best possible scenario for therapeutic success. We are learning more and more about the innate healing of higher vibrational frequencies found in nature (the highest natural frequencies are found in essential oils), and the negative impact of toxic materials and substances.

At Absolute Essential headquarters we have a zero-chemicals policy, not only on the premises but also on all the surrounding land we occupy. Whatever we do to create a more pleasant, healing environment, we strive to do it with only natural materials.

Even back in the day, when I started out with a rented treatment room in a spa complex, the basic principal of creating a sensory oasis for clients was still applicable. I found it possible to make a significant difference to the quality of the space I was using (and the shared reception area), with the same pure organic essential oils that I was using for my treatments.

Natural health principles will improve the quality of any working environment

Of course, we all want to experience a greater sense of wellbeing and not just in the confines of a natural health clinic. All of the things I am talking about here can be applied to the everyday workplace too, especially relevant as people spend such a large percentage of their time in their work environments. If we know that we can make our work lives healthier and more pleasant with some simple adjustments, it makes absolute sense to do so.

Pure essential oils are an invaluable tool for improving the quality of your professional environment

There are three main areas where essential oils can contribute to the quality of your work space.

1. Natural sanitation

This applies in any area that staff and clients use.

Being clean in a safe way is important, of course, but chemically sterile environments do not work in your favour to put a person at ease (think about dentists or hospitals, or even rental cars and motels). Move to step away from chemical products and create a completely therapeutic environment. From the toys in a reception area, to the bathroom surfaces and utilities, and the office or consultation space itself. There are a number of great aromatic choices that include strong antibacterial and antiviral cleansing.

Tea Tree is a classic choice for germ hotspots like toilets and even toys, but the citrus oils also have powerful natural cleaning properties and are among my personal favourites for everyday hygiene, due to the them having such a positive, vitalising effect on people’s energy.

2. Air purification

One of the greatest advantages of essential oils as medicinal extracts arises from their volatile nature and their tendency to release active molecules in vapour form.

The same anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that can sanitise surfaces and objects in cleaning solutions will easily disperse, when warmed, into the surrounding air. In shared spaces where clients and staff interact, I like to use a blend for diffusion to help minimise the spread of airborne germs.

I might also use a spray solution to quickly purify the treatment room between clients, following a particularly contagious case like flu, for example, and especially when treating more sensitive cases (babies, children, pregnant women) in the same day as other general clients.

3. Ambient calm

Essential oils have been proven to help reduce anxiety and aid natural relaxation.

My blog post here shows how forward-thinking clinics and hospitals integrate essential oils in their daily practice to help improve patient recovery and staff health. With a little blending know-how, it is possible to add relaxing, harmonic qualities to a purifying blend. And in the treatment room, there is even more scope to create blends that will help a client to feel a range of therapeutic responses - especially with a series of consults where you get to know a client and develop an instinct for their underlying issues (over-thinking, fear, anger etc.).

For the more general office space, there are essential oils that can help improve concentration and calm, and pure blends like Stress Less and Brain Power that have combined essential oils for greater synergy.

Make natural healing spaces more organic easily with pure essential oils

There are any number of essential oil combinations that you can make to suit your own personal preferences, as you build up your collection of pure organic essential oils.

If you want to invest in a few organic essential oils to start you off, I would recommend these:orange_sweet_essential_oil_organic_10ml_bb_copy

All these oils have powerful anti-germ properties.

The Orange and the Lemon both bring the citrus lift to blending; the Orange has a very calming, comforting aroma, while the Lemon is exceptionally fortifying and vital.

Eucalyptus adds a boost of refreshment and deep cleansing (those three together make a good combination for the health care environment).

Lavender is wonderfully calming and purifying - especially on negative energies.

Clove Bud is a strong disinfectant, and cleansing and stimulating for the mind (also good on mould). These two make a great combination for an office space.

Ways in to diffusion:

Combine 4 drops Sweet Orange, 4 drops Lemon and 2 drops Eucalyptus.

Or 2 drops Clove and 8 drops Lavender.

Or simply, 5-10 drops Lavender (better for small children or sensitive people).

To make a non-toxic, organic cleaning solution:

Combine with 1 cup of warm water with 1 teaspoon unscented natural soap, 20 drops Lemon, 10 drops Tea Tree (or 5 drops Tea Tree with 5 drops Clove for bathroom mould) .

Mix this up in a glass jar (preferably dark glass, or store in a dark place) with a lid. Use this blend to create cleaning solutions by adding 2 teaspoons per litre of water.

  • Recycle a spray bottle to make an organic, anti-germ surface cleanser, or spray toys after a busy week.
  • Or make up a bucket of hot, organic cleaning solution for soaking toys, cleaning floors, toilets, sinks etc.

When it comes to creating more therapeutic blending with essential oils for your treatment room, essential oil knowledge comes with practice and professional guidance.

You can type in an issue such as ‘anger’ in the search feature on the Absolute Essential homepage and you will see a number of choices to explore.

One essential oil that will come up is Sandalwood. This is a very calming meditative oil with a wood-warm, soothing aroma (it blends well with Orange too). The more you learn about essential oils, the greater the possibilities.

The most important thing to learn is that only pure, organic essential oils should be used in the therapeutic setting or for therapeutic treatments. These are ones that have been produced while maintaining the integrity of the original plant molecules - to be small (not heat expanded) and without impurities, for efficient and healthful interaction with the body’s own systems.

Medicinal-grade Therapeutic Plant Oils must be 100% pure. At Absolute Essential we use certified organic or wild grown (sustainable) plants to produce our oils and all extraction processes are strictly controlled to produce the best quality oil with maximum purity and therapeutic value. See more at Absolute Essential.
