History
The recorded use of Clary Sage dates back 6000 years to a Greek academic often considered the father of botany, Theophrastus. During the 16th century, it was used in brewing and distillation processes by English beer and wine producers. A variety of Clary Sage is found in traditional Chinese medicine as a tonic for the liver and heart and in massage treatments. In Western medicine, its blood tonic properties have been connected to efficacy in a range of conditions such as emotional stress, digestive upset, female hormone conditions, fatigue, stress and insomnia. Clary Sage has also been indicated as a treatment for varicose veins especially if combined with Lemon oil.
