History
Basil comes from the Greek word for king. For five centuries herbal practitioners have recommended Basil to support the respiratory system and digestive health - particularly to soothe flatulence or indigestion. It has also been used in traditional applications for the treatment of headaches, anxiety and mental fatigue.
It was used throughout Mesoamerica in traditional cleansing ceremonies and more broadly to counter the venom of poisonous snakes and insects. Basil was also used in the embalming of mummies in ancient Egypt.
