Also known as lemon-scented gum, this tree is native to north-eastern Australia and grows up to 40m tall. The distilled oil of the lemon-scented gum is comprised of 50-60% citronellal (ol), which makes it a very effective mosquito repellent. It is widely used in perfumery in a more crudely refined state. It is also considered a powerful antiseptic and useful in treating viral conditions.

History
Lemon-scented Eucalyptus has traditionally been used for its antiseptic and fungicidal properties. It is also used on skin ailments (burns, blisters, wounds, insect bites, lice, and skin infections) and to combat the effects of colds and flu. There is a history of it being applied to stiff muscles and aching joints.

Uses
Laryngitis
Rub 1-2 drops directly onto the throat and the lymph nodes. Repeat every hour until symptoms ease.

Stimulate circulation
Add 5-10 drops to a bath or footbath. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.

Insect repellent
Add 10 drops to a diffuser. Replenish every hour. Or, mix 10 drops into Almond oil then apply to the skin. Repeat as required.

Air antiseptic
Add 10 drops to a diffuser. Replenish as required.
Safety considerations
May be irritating to sensitive skin. Half dose is recommended for children and the elderly. Safe during pregnancy. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes - flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.
