A herbaceous evergreen perennial indigenous to the warm temperate and tropical areas of the world, with many found in southern Africa. A flowering plant originally grown for its beauty, it has become very important in therapeutics and the manufacture of perfume due to its fresh and lively scent. Historically it has been used to treat intestinal problems, wounds and respiratory ailments. It is also prized for its benefits to any skin type and its harmonising properties.
Overview
Fragrance notes
Fresh, green and slightly peppery, the fragrance is sweetly floral, earthy and herbaceous.

Blending notes
Blends well with: Lavender True, Basil, Palmarosa, Cedarwood and all Citrus oils.
History
Geranium is a plant with an extensive tradition in healing. In ancient Egyptian medicine, it was reportedly used against cancer growths. It is said to have antibacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. It is considered a relaxant and decongestant to body tissues. It has been indicated in the treatment of depression, measles, chickenpox and mumps. It has general tonic qualities and has been utilised for various skin conditions, including eczema. It is also used to treat menstrual and menopausal complaints.

Uses
Cold sore
Place 1 drop directly on the area when the tingling sensation occurs. Repeat 3-4 times a day for 2-3 days.

Skincare
Add 1-2 drops to your daily moisturiser to aid natural rejuvenation.

Menstrual phases
Add 7-10 drops to a bath, or to a compress on the small of the back, before sleep a few days before you expect menstruation. Repeat monthly as required. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.

Bruising
Apply 1-2 drops directly to the affected area - prior to discolouration if possible. Repeat for several days. This oil can also be blended 50/50 with Lavender True for the same purpose.
Safety considerations
Safe when used as directed. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes - flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.
