History
Sage gets its name from the Latin word 'salvarae' which means 'salvation'. Sage has one of the longest histories of use of any culinary or medicinal herb. Ancient Greeks revered it as a sacred herb and it was thought to have miracle medicinal properties. Many people believed that if Sage prospered in their garden that the owner of the garden would prosper too. Herbalists have used it externally to treat sprains, swelling, ulcers and bleeding. Sage tea has been used to treat sore throats and coughs. The nervous system, memory and senses are also said to benefit from Sage, as well as many conditions, including joint pain, grief, grey hair, and even snake bites.
