Sprain & strain
What is it?
A sprain is a ligament stretched or torn, usually an ankle, wrist or knee that rolled the wrong way. A strain is the same thing in a muscle or tendon, from a sudden load, a slip, or simply doing too much. Both hurt, swell and bruise, and both heal best when you look after the first two days well. Rest, ice, compression and elevation to start, then warmth and gentle movement once the swelling has settled, so circulation can get on with the repair.
Blend intention
Calm, then warm. Lavender True to ease pain and settle the nerves around the injury. Wintergreen, the sports oil, for its natural analgesic content and its action on inflammation and spasm. Marjoram French to warm and relax the tissue as it mends. Arnica Cream on the bruising from day one, Muscle Rub once the heat has gone, Muscle Tonic in the bath or before activity to keep the muscle supple while it recovers. This is the sprain and strain routine from Dr Bo's clinic and from every family first aid kit she has ever packed.
