Insect bites

Insect bites

What is it?
Mosquitoes, sandflies, bees and wasps. The bite or sting itself is small, the reaction is not: swelling, and an irresistible itch that can end in an infected bite. Two jobs, then. Keep the bugs off in the first place by making the environment hostile to them, and calm the skin fast when one gets through and bites you. Dr Bo was introduced to the repellent power of Eucalyptus Lemon by her own aromatic doctor in 1982, long before it was officially rated alongside DEET, and it is still the first thing she reaches for in summer.

Blend intention

Repel and soothe. Eucalyptus Lemon to keep insects away, suffocating to them, sharp and clean to us. Lavender Spike, also repellent and gentle enough for a baby's room. Tea Tree to disinfect a bite or sting and settle the itch. Most people expect Citronella here, and it does work. Dr Bo is not fond of the smell, so Eucalyptus Lemon leads, but Citronella will supplement it or replace it if the scent suits you better. Use the blend on exposed skin, in the diffuser, or added to your body lotion, and keep Lavender True or Aloe Vera Gel handy for anything that has already bitten.

Directions

Repel, adults: blend 20 drops with 1 teaspoon of carrier oil or Untouched: Body Lotion and apply to exposed skin. Repeat every 2 hours, or after swimming or heavy sweating. Diffuse 10 to 20 drops indoors, and stand the diffuser on the floor near your legs. Scent rises, so there is little point having it up on a table.

Repel, pregnancy and children over 1 year: 5 drops per teaspoon of carrier, reapplied more often, or a diffuser going in the room to fill the air with molecules the bugs do not like.

Babies under 1 year: 5 drops in the diffuser in the room. Apply pure Jojoba to exposed skin first, then 1 drop of Bug Repellent in ½ teaspoon of Sweet Almond over the same area. Or use Bug Repellent Spray, gentle enough over clothes and sleeping babies.

Bites and stings: wipe 5 drops of Lavender True or Tea Tree over the bite, then a good layer of Aloe Vera Gel until the urge to itch ebbs.
