Lemon is a species of small flowering evergreen tree. It is thought to have first grown in Northeast India, Burma or China. Genomic studies suggest it's a hybrid between bitter orange and citron. Our essential oil is cold pressed from the rind. Lemon extractions have been popular for centuries for a broad variety of therapeutic applications and its uplifting, zesty aroma.

History
Both traditional Chinese and Indian medicine have used lemon for thousands of years. It has been cited in treatments for food poisoning, malaria, typhoid and scurvy. It is considered a purifying agent on the blood and has a long history in remedies for colds, throat infection, anxiety and high blood pressure. It has also been used to promote cleansing in the lymphatic system and help relieve muscular aches and pains. The bright and zesty scent of lemon is said to improve concentration.

Uses
Immune system
Have 5-10 drops diffusing continuously in the home or at the office.

Feet treat
Add 5 drops of Lemon oil and 1/2 cup of Epsom salts to a foot bath. Repeat as required.

Circulation
Mix 50 drops of Lemon oil with 10mls of Sweet Almond oil and apply to the affected area daily.

Ant and fly repellent
Add 3-5 drops to a dishcloth and wipe down surfaces. Alternatively, drop some oil in the ants path to discourage their progress. Repeat as required.
Mentrual Support - beginning of cycle
Blend 3 drops with 1 tsp of Chamomile German: 3% in Jojoba oil and massage it into the small of your back to support positive energy.
Menstrual support – mid cycle
Add 1-2 drops Lavender True and/or Cypress essential oils to the above mix to support calm
Immunity support
Add 3-5 drops to drinking water for system cleansing and immunity support.
Cellulite
Rub 3-5 drops on cellulite-prone areas after a shower to tone and firm the skin.
Body toning
Apply 3 drops to a loofah during your shower.
Safety considerations
Citrus oils are slightly photo-toxic so avoid sunlight after application to the skin. May cause irritation to sensitive skin. Should not be used by people with citrus allergies. May irritate skin if used in the bath or in combination with hot water. Dilute in milk first if used in the bath. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid eyes, flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.
